    Walking in the Horizon Field

There are many paths that lead to Antony Gormley's landscape installation Horizon Field. A number of resorts and Kunsthaus Bregenz offer guided walks with background information on the project. If you want to go on your own, there are maps available showing the sites where the iron-cast figures have been installed. Alternatively, you may read up on suggested hikes on the websites of the Vorarlberg State Tourist Board or the Kunsthaus Bregenz.

A sizeable number of easily accessible iron figures can be found in the extensive hiking area of Lech-Zürs. The trails from Au or Mellau up to mount Kanisfluh, from the Kleinwalsertal or the Hochtannberg to the aweinspiring mount Widderstein, or in the hiking area of Stuben and Alpe Rauz, are more demanding. Those of a more leisurely bent can choose sites close to a cable car: Diedamskopf near Au-Schoppernau, Rüfikopf near Lech and the area around Steffisalpbahn in Warth-Schröcken

Variety in the Mountain World of Lech

      Arlberg

Lech and Zürs are well-known skiing resorts in winter. In summer they boast flowery meadows and great walks. Some of the starting points for walks can be reached by cable car.

      Oberlech

      Arlberg

Several of the ironmen can be reached from Oberlech on simple walking paths. The well-signposted round route via the Grubenalpe and through the dolines brings to light a delightful range of contrasts.

Kanisfluh: The world of the Ibex

      Bregenzerwald

Towering between Mellau and Au, Kanisfluh (2044m) is a landmark peak, appearing steep and craggy from the Mellau side. Pastures cover the gentler south face which extends to Au. To reach the hiking area, take the cable car from Mellau.

Diedamskopf: The Highest Peak in the Bregenzerwald

      Bregenzerwald

From Schoppernau, a cable-car ascends to Diedamskopf (2090m), a famous lookout. At certain dates, the cable-car operates also during night-time and at sunset. Various routes run to the near summit, across the plateau and down to the valley.

      Widderstein: The Imperial Tour (Kaisertour)

      Kleinwalsertal

Widderstein (2533) rises between the Kleinwalsertal and the Bregenzerwald. The standard route to the summit from the south follows a well-marked ascending trail and is easy to negotiate. However, you need to be sure-footed, not suffer from giddiness and have a good stamina.
