The Green Ring in Lech / Arlberg

Many of Vorarlberg’s hiking trails tell about history, civilisation or peculiarities of nature.

Artistically-designed trails are a newly added feature. Altogether, the network of uniformly sign-posted hiking trails is 6000km long.

On several legs, the Green Ring runs around Lech Zürs, crossing mountain crests and low-lying valleys, passing mountain lakes and streams with waterfalls. En route, hikers can find out more about legends depicted in a witty, charming and zeitgeisty way, or be enthralled by exceptional installations, as well as by the stories conceived specifically for the Green Ring.

Cooperating closely with the writer Daniela Egger, Daniel Nikolaus Kocher, a fledgling sculptor with a deep sensitivity for the beauty of the mountains, has been crafting a firework of ideas for the Green Ring. Mythical beasts and stories, old field names and geographical idiosyncrasies are processed into a modern-day presentation with a pinch of humour. A literary hiking map informs about sites difficult to discern with the naked eye. Conveniently placed benches invite passers-by to sit down and rest
