Vorarlberg is Austria’s westernmost state, the smallest but one in terms of area and inhabitants. In spite of its small size, Vorarlberg boasts the greatest natural diversity within narrow confines of any tourist destination in Europe: an 80 km beeline from the "mediterranean" shores of Lake Constance (400 m altitude) to the glacier-topped peaks (3,000 m altitude) of the Silvretta range.
